Vectra has the green light to acquire Multimedia Polska. Changes are being prepared for customers

Big changes are planned on the cable television and fixed-line internet access market. Vectra has the green light to acquire Multimedia Polska. The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection issued its consent, but set two conditions that are convenient for users.

In 2018, Vectra agreed with Multimedia Polska on the absorption of the company. Vectra would take over the competitor, which he agreed to in the initial contract. In the case of such a large operation, the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection had to enter the game, which examined whether Vectra would become a monopolist in some places. Both television and internet operators competed for clients in many Polish cities.

UOKiK said that the acquisition will actually significantly strengthen Vectra's position. There are specific numbers: the "restriction of competition" will arise in 21 cities for pay TV services, and in 29 cities for landline internet.

We have just learned the verdict of UOKiK. Vectra has the green light to acquire Multimedia Polska.

UOKiK agreed to take over , but set two conditions. The first is to sell the network in eight cities, and the second is to allow customers to terminate the contract without consequences in 13 other cities.

As regards the sale of the network, the case concerns Gorzów Wielkopolski, Kwidzyń, Łowicz, Olsztyn, Ostróda, Pogórze, Pruszcz Gdański and Stargard. In these cities, Vectra must create new companies and transfer to them contracts with subscriptions and employees, infrastructure, documentation and other key elements for business. Subsequently, the companies are to be sold to independent investors unrelated to Vectra.

By the time of the sale, the companies must comply with television and internet access services at the level guaranteed by Vectra. In addition, Vectra cannot carry out active advertising in these cities.

Clients of 13 cities will be able to terminate contracts with Vectra.

The second condition of UOKiK is to enable Vectra subscribers to terminate the contract for television or internet without incurring any consequences. This possibility will appear in 13 cities: in Barcin, Inowrocław, Kruszwica, Lubicz Dolny, Łęczyca, Mogilno, Nakło nad Notecią, Piechcin, Słubice, Strzelno, Suwałki, Szubin and Świnoujście.

After the decision becomes final, Vectra has seven months to inform customers about the possibility of terminating the contract, which is to be possible for the next nine months. Subscribers will receive relevant information along with bills or on TV screens via a decoder.

Now the ball is on Vectra's side.

After the verdict of UOKiK, Vectra may accept the findings or appeal against them. There is currently no comment from this operator.
