Nokia gives up: These Android smartphones will no longer exist
Nokia phones used to be very popular. But the name quickly lost meaning in the field and was first licensed to Microsoft and then to HMD Global. Now you have to admit that you can't and don't want to keep up with Samsung, Apple and Co. in one area.
No more high-end smartphones from Nokia
It has already become apparent in recent years. High-end smartphones with Nokia branding from HMD Global have never had an easy time and have mostly failed. Samsung, Apple and Co. are simply untouchable in the high price range. And that has now probably also been noticed at HMD Global. At MWC 2022, the Android Authority was told that "it doesn't make sense for the company to build an $800 phone." You want to "stand for something completely different" .
So Nokia fans should once and for all bury their hopes for a high-end smartphone with this logo. In recent years, the company has tried to cater to every price range. Meanwhile, HMD Global is concentrating on the entry-level and mid-range with its Nokia devices . With this strategy, the sales figures are slowly increasing again. Most recently, however, the company had to remove almost all Nokia cell phones from the German shop due to a patent lawsuit. So Nokia phones don't have it easy.
There's even an Android tablet with a Nokia logo:
Mid-range smartphone business couldn't be easier
It is to be hoped that HMD Global does not underestimate the competition in the entry-level and mid-range. Samsung and Xiaomi set the pace there . But more and more Chinese smartphone manufacturers are entering the market and offering real value for money. The name Nokia is not enough to be successful. The smartphones also have to convince. It will be exciting to see how the company develops and which smartphones we can still expect to see.
