We play without electricity: LEGO Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a great price-content ratio. A positive surprise

The biggest problem with LEGO Technic is the lethal price. It is difficult to explain the purchase of a brick excavator for PLN 500 to household members. Or a big truck for twice as much. In turn, the cheapest Technika sets are so simple and modest that they lose all their charm. Hence my positive surprise for LEGO Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The final model looks better than on the box, and its price is less than PLN 130. Cost effective set.

This is the fastest, strongest Corvette in history. The creators of the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 from 2019 boast that they have created a legend again, retaining the most important and most liked features of the American car. The eighth generation (C8) has a 6.2 V8 engine with 755 hp, thanks to which the car reaches a speed of 337 km / h. The price of this model starts from 130 thousand dollars. Price for the LEGO set - from PLN 130.

LEGO Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 consists of 579 elements and got the designation 9+.

So we are dealing with a universal kit that both adults and children can handle. The building process itself is very simple, while the parts are so diverse that it is very difficult to make a mistake. When building, I didn't use measuring links, and I chose each length part (e.g. cross tube) by eye. There was not a single mistake. I didn't have to make any corrections.

I really liked that, unlike many Technic sets, this time the model makers do not leave the best at the end. Pretty soon we have the opportunity to mount the seats and steering wheel. A mask is also created very quickly and doors are installed relatively quickly. The manual pleasantly mixes the assembly of small blocks with large elements. Thanks to this, even for a moment we do not have the feeling of wading in small cargo. Each subsequent move is a visual progress that pleases the eye.

It took me 4.5 hours to assemble Corvette for the first time. It should be noted, however, that the activity was combined with watching TV. From time to time I also talked to the household members. I assembled the model in my free time, not in a hurry or prior selection of blocks. Therefore, I have no doubt that experienced builders will be able to finish the model much, much faster. The question is why rush, if construction is a pleasure in this case.

Uhlan fantasy. I didn't expect moving pistons.

LEGO architects flew away a bit during the design of Corvette. The best example of this are movable pistons visible even from the level of the closed mask. The bonnet does not extend over the entire surface, but is just a narrow strip that goes through the center of the vehicle. On its left and right side you can see the engine with protruding pistons. These move as the wheels rotate, suggesting engine operation. It looks impressive, but has little to do with the hood of a real car.

I have to admit that I would be much more likely to see the variant with movable pistons under the full bonnet that can be raised. Such a bonus for the insiders. An interesting accessory that can be boasted by another LEGO lover. Instead, we get the "rich" and "let everyone see" variant. Eye-catching but drastically distorting the resemblance to a real car.

There are more drastic differences from the real Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

The front of the car looks completely different. A real Chevrolet smiles strongly exposed black grill. It was completely missing in the LEGO version. The foldable Corvette has been strongly enclosed from the front. It also lacks dedicated headlights. The use of universal slides means that the character of a real car leaks somewhere sideways. In a word - standing in front of the model it is difficult to find the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 in it.

As with most LEGO car sets, the chassis is a bit too high this time. However, I have no reason to complain about the sideline. For a set for PLN 130, the similarity was reproduced at the correct level. The back of the car is also correct. You can see Corvette in it, although I would prefer a much more built-up rump.

Of course, for the price of PLN 130, you can not count on additional interactive elements.

Forget, for example, the movable suspension. Only the front axle allows the wheels to move left or right. The rear wheels only work in one position. For this, the direction of travel is changed by means of an extended drive shaft. The steering wheel is 100% immobilized. There is also nothing to count on the raised mask, retractable roof or opening door. The main interactive elements are the engine and the front axle. With a pinch of eye I can also write that the model allows manual adjustment of mirrors.

The set is also not detailed enough to correctly reproduce the unique interior of the vehicle. Instead, we have a classic sports cage without any distinctive elements. Optionally, we can give Chevrolet character with the body stickers attached to the set. Only on these stickers can you find the official Corvette logo.

I am complaining, but I am very, very happy.

In practice, LEGO Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 looks much more detailed and interesting than on the box. The model is bigger and more solid than I expected. Its coherent design means that you can easily hand it over to a 10-year-old child who has learned to respect toys. In the hands of such an individual, the Corvette ZR1 is unlikely to fall apart, and the pistons of the machine rushing on the carpet will work just as nice. This set definitely does not belong to the group of deposits, put aside and see from afar .

Best of all, when the Corvette ZR1 is a bit unlike the original, we are already bored, we can build an interesting Hot Rod with the engine on top. This set is in fact a 2in1 type, which increases its attractiveness, especially among practicing builders. Those who love to reassemble and redistribute constructions. The Hot Rod instruction is not included in the set, but you can easily download it to a tablet or smartphone from the official LEGO Life app.

  • We play without electricity : "Sherlock Holmes: Advisory Detective" is beautifully published, more difficult than you think board game
  • We play without electricity : money does not count here, i.e. Monopoly for Millenials

In the end, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 turned out to be a very versatile set. With its help, younger designers can enter the LEGO Technic world without worrying about the level of complexity. ZR1 is also a good idea for a gift - not too expensive, but with adequate quality, you certainly won't be ashamed of birthday. In turn, more experienced collectors will appreciate the very nice and varied process of building a car. All this adds up to a product with a favorable price-to-content ratio that can positively surprise.
